Hans's business degree with emphasis on production operations and HRM gave him his initial insights into, and idea to apply effective speed to nearly everything. Speed climbing is where Hans has made his biggest mark. Hans literally wrote the book on speed climbing. He won the first 16 speed climbing events that he entered. He has been the US National Speed Climbing Champion nine times in the past 15 years, and he won the first World Speed Climbing Championship in 1991. Hans won gold at the first three ESPN X-Games. On rock, Hans has repeatedly set and broken one of the most coveted speed records in the world: The Nose of El Capitan. Hans
Florine (born June 18, 1964) is an American rock climber, who together
with Yuji Hirayama holds the Speed Climb World Record for climbing The
Nose of Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2:37:05; 2 hours, 37 minutes and
05 seconds set on October 12, 2008. This breaks their record of 2 hours,
43 minutes and 33 seconds set on July 2, 2008, which had broken the record
that was set by the German "Huberbuam" , Alexander Huber and
Thomas Huber. The two brothers climbed The Nose on October 8, 2007 in
2 hours, 45 minutes and 45 seconds breaking Hans' and Yuji's prior speed
record. El Capitan is traditionally climbed in three to five days. The
Nose route is 2900 ft long and features over 31 pitches of strenuous,
exposed climbing. Florine thus climbed The Nose at roughly 6 minutes per
pitch. On July 30, 2005, Florine also completed a solo ascent of The Nose
in just 11 hours and 41 minutes. Solo ascents are characterized by climbing

Hans
is obsessed with speed. He times virtually everything: driving distances,
widget production, diaper changes, loan closings,newspaper reading. Hans
has produced an audio program called "Speed Is Power", currently
available in a box set along with 13 other succces authors, the likes
of Denis Waitley and Vince Lombardi Jr.
